Welcome to Year 5 Bats!
Welcome back! I hope you’ve had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break! My name is Miss Chapman, class teacher for Year Five Bats. Supporting the learning within our classroom is Mrs Pearson.
During this half term our main focus in English is to write a diary entry based on the book 'Charlotte's Web' by E. B. White. Throughout this unit, we will be developing our writing by using commas after fronted adverbials to improve sentence structure and blending action with dialogue. We will then move onto creating our own innovated stories.
In Maths we will be focusing on place value. Children will learn how to read, write and compare numbers up to 1,000,000 as well as, round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000. Following our learning on place value, we will begin looking at addition and subtraction.
Our Word Wide Learning this half term with investigate 'Children around the World'. During this topic we will develop our geographical skills and discover what it is like to be a child growing up in a different country!
